OUR MISSION:

The Annual Snowmaking and Slope Maintenance Conference & Tradeshow provides snow professionals with information from experts and suppliers on the latest snowmaking and slope maintenance technology, offers resort management and staff the ability to network, and creates the unique opportunity for snowmaking and slope maintenance professionals to learn about industry resources throughout the state, region, country and the world. We also recognize the top achievers in the Colorado ski industry through the Lifetime Achievement Award, Snowmaker of the Year, Groomer of the Year and Terrain Master of the Year Finalists and Nominees.

Communication and Leadership in the Ski Industry

Every industry faces its own unique challenges with respect to interdepartmental communication and leadership, and the ski industry is no exception. In this session, we will discuss how ski resort departments can work together to effectively deliver both quality products and service and foster a healthy work environment. We will also discuss how each ski area employee—regardless of title or position—can and should be a leader.

In this session we will learn about the latest in snow depth technology from two industry leaders.

Avalanche Pack Roller
Scott Pittenger, Director of Mountain Operations, Telluride Ski and Golf Co.
Michael Ostrout, Snowmaking Mechanic, Copper Mountain
The avalanche roller is the most efficient tool in avalanche control and snow preservation. The roller will mitigate avalanche risk while packing down snow in any terrain accessible from above via snowcat. Utilizing a winch cat, the roller descends and ascends the slope, churning, breaking down and packing off snow in its path. Minimize early season risk and increase efficiency in the alpine.

Jump Measurements

This clinic is broken down in to a lecture and an interactive presentation covering the Jump Measurement Process. As a part of the Jump Measurement Process Clinic, the resort team will receive a condensed version of the Jump Measuremtn Process and the needed tools to make this process easy, efficient and accurate.

Season in Review & Insider Tips for Snow Forecasting
Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist, OpenSnow
Let’s talk weather! We’ll look at the snowfall pattern this season, investigate the accuracy of the long-range forecasts leading up to the season, and we’ll talk about how certain weather patterns and wind directions bring more (or less) snow to certain mountains. Plus, Joel will (try to) answer all of your weather-related questions.

This session will focus on centrifugal vertical pump and mechanical seals typically used in the snowmaking industry. Maintenance and troubleshooting tips will be shared to increase snowmakers knowledge of this equipment.

Summer maintenance—a recipe for success. Summer maintenance begins the first day of the snowmaking season. Identify and record damage issues, plan and schedule corrective action, continue regular maintenance on all equipment.

Chainsaw Safety and Best Practices
Andrew Mattison, Technical Sales Specialist, Intermountain STIHL
Andrew will provide an overview of common fuel related issues in context of basic preventative maintenance. We will also review instruction on current safety requirements by OSHA and STIHL recommended PPA and safety practices. Andrew will also go through basic cutting techniques recommended for hillside cutting and general felling safety.
