DURANGO, COLORADO – Thanks to favorable weather conditions, snowmaking operations are officially underway at Purgatory.
A cold snap began on the last Sunday of October and is expected to persist until mid-week, particularly on the upper mountain areas above 9,000 feet. These conditions are ideal for concentrating early-season snow production efforts. Although temperatures are expected to rise after Wednesday, low humidity levels will allow snowmaking operations to continue even if temperatures are slightly above freezing.
Purgatory is anticipating a Saturday, November 18, opening day.
